Jose Fernando Santacruz, MD

J. Fernando Santacruz is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. He graduated from The Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, School of Medicine in 2002. During his medical school he performed clinical rotations at Jackson Memorial Hospital at The University of Miami, as part of the Latin-American Training Program. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were performed at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio from 2004 to 2007. He completed his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic from 2007 to 2010. During his fellowship he was enrolled in the Interventional Pulmonology tract from 2008 to 2010, where he was trained in advanced interventional bronchoscopy.
Dr. Santacruz has special interests in advance endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for diagnosis and therapy of malignant and benign thoracic diseases. He has particular clinical interest in lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, lung cancer staging, tracheobronchomalacia, bronchoscopic therapy of COPD and benign airway stenosis.

Dr. Santacruz performs advanced procedures such as electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy, central and peripheral endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), ultra-thin bronchoscopy, transbronchial needle aspiration and Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy for the diagnosis of pulmonary pathology. He has special training in therapeutic bronchoscopy for the treatment of benign and malignant diseases (i.e., airway obstruction, hemoptysis, fistulas, tracheobronchomalacia, etc.) including the use of endoscopic LASER, electrocautery, argon plasma coagulation, cryotherapy, mechanical tumor removal, balloon dilatation, endobronchial valves, rigid bronchoscopy and airway stent placement (metallic, silicone and hybrid). He also performs pleural procedures as ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, chest tube placement and tunneled pleural catheters.
