Dr. Jayasimha N. Murthy - PCCS Pulmonologist & Sleep Expert Houston

Jayasimha N. Murthy obtained his MD degree from St. Johns National Academy of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India in 1995, following which he completed rotating multispecialty internship from 1995-1996. Dr. Murthy received numerous awards for his academic achievements during his tenure at the medical school. He then came to the United States where he completed his residency at Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn, NY and his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care from Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Murthy joined CentraCare Clinic a tertiary care center in Minnesota where he practiced all aspects of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. Subsequently, he returned to Houston in 2005 as a full-time faculty in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at The University of Texas Medical School. While at the medical school, Dr. Murthy carried out NIH funded translational research in diffuse parenchymal lung diseases (ILD) and pulmonary fibrosis as well as pioneering research in non-contact sensing technology for sleep studies in collaboration with scientists at University of Houston. For this effort, he has received numerous awards, and recognition including the Alfred Soffer research Award from the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Murthy’s research work has been published in leading engineering and medical journals and has also been featured on the website on National Science Foundation. Dr. Murthy joined PCCS in 2010 and is now active on the Baylor volunteer faculty teaching service. His interests include sleep apnea, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis and mechanical ventilation.
